Hockwold-cum-Wilton, the result of the merging of two hamlets, lies in rolling countryside, predominantly agricultural, north of the Little Ouse River, a major determining factor in its historical development.
The village is also just west of the Thetford Forest Park and again this topographical feature was an important factor in the settlement’s early days.
The land falls gently north to south as part of the north side of the river valley.
It is now a village of around 40 acres and has a population of around 1,145.
