MORE HOMES FOR KESSINGLAND ! ! ! !
You may have read reports that Waveney District Council have published a consultation document as part of the Local Development Framework based on the vision and objectives of its Core Strategy . This document deals with identification of future suitable sites for development within Waveney and covers all areas of the District. In the EDP dated the 12th December 2006 details were published that stated Waveney District Council have a blue print for future land development which includes a proposal for 416 more houses for Kessingland The complete document which is called Site Specific Allocations Issues and Options December 2006 is available on the Waveney District Council website or available from the offices of Waveney District Council. Here are some extracts from that document:-
Waveney District Council has to make provision for an additional 5800 houses in Waveney between 2001 and 2021, however almost half of these houses have already been built or have planning permission. As of the 31st March 2006 1943 houses had been built a further 1043 have been granted planning permission. 732 were in and around Lowestoft. In accordance with Waveney Core Strategy most of the remaining growth is expected to take place in Lowestoft including Carlton Colville and Oulton. The larger villages of Blundeston, Corton and Kessingland may take some small scale development , commensurate with their scale and character, where opportunities arise. Priority will be given to affordable housing. In the countryside outside these settlements only infill development and other exceptions will be allowed.
Kessingland's Parish Plan of 2004 is mentioned which advocates no further housing with the exception of very sheltered housing and homes specifically for the young. The Site Specific Allocations proposed for Kessingland in the report are :-
1. Former Ashley Garden Centre London Road - 45 houses - Brownfield site. 2. Land adjacent to Heritage Green - 30 houses - Greenfield Site 3. Land part of Laurel Farm - 193 Houses and Sports/Playing Field - Greenfield Site 4. Land part of Moat Farm - 416 Houses - Greenfield Site. 5. Land at Alandale Holiday Park - 37 House - Brownfield Site.
This total adds up to 718 houses not the 416 as mentioned in the press.
A number of suggested sites are located in the Strategic Gap between Lowestoft and Kessingland. These could have a negative impact on the open character of the landscape of development causing the 2 settlements to coalesce.
Waveney District Council state that they have not made any decision on its preferred options for development. The District Council is seeking your views on all site options that have been suggested to help make a decision. Inclusion in this document DOES NOT mean that the site will necessarily be approved for development. They add that many of the suggested sites will not be required to meet predicted future needs.
The Parish Council will be looking closely at these proposals and will be making a response, the reason for highlighting these planning proposals is so that you the Community of Kessingland can make a response to these proposals. For anybody wishing to respond the closing date is the 5th February 2007 and your response should be sent direct to the following address:- Planning Policy, Waveney District Council, Town Hall, High Street, Lowestoft, Suffolk NR32 1HS.
