March 2007-Issue No 16

Chairmans Comments.

It is with regret that I report the resignation of two of our Parish Councillors for personal and family reasons. Councillor Linda Capon and Councillor Michael Howard  have both had to give up their commitment to the Parish Council, both will be sadly missed. They both worked hard for the benefit of the Community, Cllr Capon was one of two Councillors who did the weekly inspection reports at the Play Area in Church Road. Cllr Howard was involved in a number of issues and was about to start a project which will be looking at highlighting areas in the village which can be earmarked for Conservation Status, he has informed the     Parish Council that he is still willing to be involved in this project and the Parish Council look forward to working with him in the future.

A STEP ALONG THE WAY .......

A Member of the Parish Council attended the Meeting of the Waveney District
Council Development Control Committee, better and colloquially known as the
Planning Committee, on Wednesday 21st. February, to register and enhance the
views of the residents and the Parish Council of this lovely village, with
regard to an application that was being      considered to squeeze 20 dwellings
of various types on land to the south of The Nordalls, which separates the
two halves of Glebe Road. This was the first item to be considered, one
earlier item being deferred. The presentation and debate on this proposal
"went on" for some forty minutes, at the end of which two speakers were
allowed three minutes each to speak against the proposed development and one
speaker for. Following this, the Chairman, Cllr. Mortimer, asked for a
motion from the floor. Eventually,
after a little coaxing, one of the attending Councillors proposed
rejection, on the grounds of flooding risk and over-development of the site.
This motion was promptly seconded, and  following further discussion a vote

on the proposal to reject this application was carried by seven votes in
favour of the motion, one against and one    abstention. A good result for all
the residents who had written in to object, and also for the Parish Council,
which is here to support the Community of Kessingland.

AGE CONCERN ‘ YOUR RIGHTS WEEK'.

Last year at the Community/Police Office in Church Road, Age Concern held an Advice Surgery . The purpose was to enable people of 60+ (and their Carers) to come along and see what benefits they may be entitled.  This year Age Concern are  planning to hold another  Surgery hopefully on Thursday 12th April between 10am and 12noon. This event will receive   further publicity in the forthcoming weeks.

Dogs on the Beach.

Yet again the Parish Council has been receiving complaints from residents who are the          responsible dog owners who exercise their dogs on the beach and around the village. The Beach is one of Kessinglands assets and with the holiday season fast approaching, people will not come to Kessingland and spend time on the beach if they are having to avoid dog faeces left behind by irresponsible dog owners. The Beach area is not a toilet area to take dogs to so that they relieve themselves, if the owners would take the responsibility of cleaning up after their pets and using the appropriate placed bins there would be no problem. Unfortunately in the absence of the Dog Wardens that were removed by the District Council this is self policing and ALL residents are asked to co-operate. This also applies to all areas around the village in particular in and around the school in Field Lane.

Think about the fact that children want to play on the beach and people want to walk around the streets without having to keep looking down at the ground .

  VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED.

As already mentioned the Parish Council is setting up a Project to see if there are any parts of the village that would qualify for Conservation status. If there is anybody that would be interested in joining such a Project Team could they please in the first instance contact the Parish Clerk. Thank You.
