Speed limit reductions
Meeting with John Dymott on 15th August about speed limit reductions John Dymott works for the contractors, Mott Gifford, who will be carrying out the work under the ‘Village 30' scheme. He confirmed that we meet the criteria (based on housing density), and that we are to be included, as a priority, in the schedule for this financial year. 30 mph will become the maximum speed limit throughout the whole village, and so the 40mph limits on the Liphook Rd., Headley Rd., Lindford Road and Mill lane will be reduced to 30mph. Village Gateways, funded through the ‘Village 30' scheme, will be placed - on the Lindford Rd. near the Broxhead Farm Road junction,
- on the Liphook Rd. to the south of Headley Mill
- on Mill Lane on the Headley side of the junction with Headley Road.
They will include standing signs giving the village name + 30mph, and a section of road will be coloured red with white circle and 30mph lettering inset. Presumably the old village signs will be removed. Implementation of the scheme is not dependent on an assessment of the ‘85 percentile speed', but speed counts will be done on Liphook Rd., Headley Road, and Mill Lane, and police endorsement will be sought, before commencement of the work. The intention is to complete everything by 1st March, 2008. We also discussed possible installation of one or more ‘ Speed Indicating Devices' (SIDS). We could have one mobile version with sockets in different locations. There may be a ‘one off' charge for this. The PC will arrange consultation about proposals when they have been drawn up by the contractors. This will probably be done through a display in the Church Hall + newsletter article. We have had, and continue to have, the full support of Adam Carew and Yvonne Parker Smith, our County and District Councillors, in seeking these reductions in speed limits. Traffic calming on the Liphook Road will be paid for from funds provided by the Chase Road developers. This is not part of the scheme but will be important in making the 30mph limit effective, given the nature of this road. John Dymott will help us to press the Highways Department for action. It would be good if we could consult people about these plans and the ‘Village 30' plans at the same time. ISS 3rd September 2007
