Loddon stands on the southern banks of the River Chet and is the focal point of this part of South Norfolk. This village, which is bypassed by the main Norwich to Beccles road, has a population of over 2,000. Water based leisure activities are a major part of the Loddon scene. The staithes were once the unloading point for wherries, which sailed from the River Yare with coal and corn. Now they serve yachtsmen during the season and together with the boat building and letting yards, make an important contribution to the economy of the town. The town also boasts many independent shops, pubs, restaurants and businesses, which serve the people of Loddon and those in surrounding villages.
