Margaretting village is set within a rural and unspoilt area of the county of Essex UK forming part of the Metropolitan Green Belt. The mostly arable land rises on both sides of the river Wid valley to become gently rolling hills and ridges. The parish covers an area of 1126.37 hectares and 825 villagers live in 363 dwellings (2001 census). There are indications of pre-historic activity and Roman materials are found in the mainly 15C church. A plaque commemorates the fact the settlement was recorded in the Domesday Book (1086).
