Litter / Street Sweeping / Fly-tipping / Graffiti


King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council carries out general litter clearance including detritus on roads and fly-tipping. A regular programme of street sweeping takes place throughout the borough with 2,500 tons removed from streets annually.

The Council will also remove graffiti from public buildings and open spaces.

The Council's target is to respond within 2.5 days to all fly-tipping/litter requests.

Abandoned Cars

 

KL&WNBC is responsible for removal of abandoned cars in liaison with the Police.

In some cases, removal may be delayed if a vehicle is the subject of an insurance claim or criminal investigation. The Council target is to remove vehicles within 7 days from receipt of Police approval.

KL&WNBC is responsible for the replacement of street names.

Children's Play Area

 

Children's play areas are provided by a variety of agencies including:

KL&WNBC, Parish Councils and voluntary organisations.

Street Furniture

 

Most street furniture, seats, benches and bins are the responsibility of KL&WNBC.

As well as providing furniture directly, the Council operates a system allowing street furniture to be sponsored.

Street Lighting

 

Responsibility is split between the Councty, Borough and Parish Councils.

The County Council deal with all reports and will sift to the appropriate body.

Dog Waste Bins

 

Dog waste bins are provided by the Borough Council in King's Lynn, Downham Market and Hunstanton. Bins are emptied twice a week during the Autumn/Winter and three times a week during Spring/Summer. Parish Councils provide dog waste bins within their Parish boundary and these bins are emptied once a week.

Dog Fouling

 

Footpaths and grass verges adjacent to a road with a speed limit of 40 m.p.h. or less are designated as clean up areas. Other areas such as playing fields or parks may also be designated as clean up areas. All complaints relating to dog fouling are investigated by the Dog Warden.

Stray Dogs

The Borough Council is responsible for catching stray dogs in public areas and can also seize dogs from private land with the consent of the land owners
(i.e. from back gardens of complainants houses)

Road Signs / Weeds

 

Road signage and weed growth on pavements and kerb lines is the responsibility of the County Council. Weed treatment commences in the Spring and takes place 3 times during the year.

Bulky Items Collection Service

 

The Council can organise the collection of bulky household items such as furniture, beds, fridges and freezers. We do not collect building waste, kitchen units or bathroom fixtures. There is a charge for this service of £10.20 for up to 3 items and £2.05 for each additional item (increases by R.P.I each year) If you are on Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit, items are collect free of charge.

Dangerous Buildings & Structures

 

KL&WNBC deal with dangerous buildings and structures using powers contained in the Building act 1984. Building Control staff will visit and inspect all dangerous structures that are reported to us on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week basis.
