The redundant parish church
|
Mashbury is a very small parish situated in the centre of Essex, to the northwest of Chelmsford. Although only seven miles from Essex’s main town, Mashbury is rural in character. It is unusual in that its 37 households are scattered across the parish and there is no village centre.
Land use is mainly agricultural with wheat and oilseed rape being the principal crops. The narrow roads and numerous tracks, footpaths and bridleways are popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
Although Mashbury is too small to include many civic amenities, it remains a parish independent of its larger and better known neighbours such as Good Easter, Pleshey and the Chignals.
