Aim of History Society
The aim of the History Society is to stay non profit making but able to cover outlay, and provide a natural historical background to the people of Membury and anyone else who may find it of interest. This is best explained in a brief paragraph on what actually happens to bring local, and many times national, history to the people. Recently an expert in stained glass gave a talk with examples of stained glass, which was then followed up with a coach trip to St. Andrews Church, Plymouth to see a leading example of stained glass. Toward the end of September 2006 there will be a talk on WW11 airfields in the village hall followed shortly afterward with a visit to Dunkerswell airfield to see an exhibition of WWII aeroplanes. Following on a week or two later there will be a talk by a local person, Hazel Riley. on the Quantocks. Again this will be followed with a coach trip to the Quantocks. I hope this helps the reader to follow our path to the enjoyment of local history? The web site address: www.thelocalchannel.co.uk/memburylocalhistorysociety
