Middle Aston Annual Village Meeting minutes
13-Jan-2007

This was held on 13th January 2007 at Middle Aston House. Twenty people attended, representing about one third of the households in the village. Main points covered were: once again we agreed not to set a precept for our village. Efforts to make walking and cycling to school safer were discussed. Helen Cooper is leading this effort. Most helpful solution was seen as imploring drivers, including our own residents, to drive slower and safer. Emily Davis was elected to serve as the village representative trustee for the Steeple Aston Alms Houses. Hannah Norbury reported on the setting up of a village web site and it was agreed to ask residents for contributions, especially firms who trade from here. A request from Middle Aston House for people to stop walking around the grounds was read out. The annual plea was made for litter not to be dropped, or failing that, for everyone to help pick it up now, rather than in April when Cherwell District Council tend to organize a Blitz. The verges have recently been mown and old rubbish is very visible, the weeds will soon grow and hide it for another year. Much information about footpaths, highways damage, planning, fire service etc was on display for everyone to read.

The Middle Aston Millennium Fund meeting was held right after the Parish meeting. The main purpose being to keep track of the small amount of money left over from funding for our celebration of the millennium, and to plan any social events. A party was held in 2006 but this did not raise enough to replenish the coffers. Given the need to keep a working balance for any future social events, we felt we could only give away £200 and it was unanimously agreed to give this to Steeple Aston Youth Club as we currently have 14 teenagers, nearly all of whom attend the club. A request from Steeple Aston Life was turned down as it was known many people made an individual donation, and everyone was encouraged to do so. Various people agreed to put on a children's party and, on a separate date, a Pig Roast primarily for adults. Everyone was told to confirm they were coming at least a week before hand as it is very difficult to plan a fund raising event when it looks as if too few people will come to make it succeed.
