HIMALAYAN KNOTWEED AT OTTERHEAD

 

Himalayan Knotweed (Persicaria wallichii) has narrow pointed leaves which easily distinguishes it from Bohemian Knotweed (separate page on this website) and the even more notorious Japanese Knotweed. From small beginnings -

the developing canes will reach five feet or more by the end of the growing season after which they die down -

The flower display is long lasting, unlike Bohemian Knotweed and the flowers carry a distinctive perfume -

The gardens at Otterhead have not been tended since 1939; if Japanese Knotweed had been present, it would have largely over run Otterhead by now.
