Local Geology Map

The Pentons are halfway up this map and 1/3rd in from the right hand side.

The area is underlain by an enormous "raft" of Chalk  up to 1100 ft thick (green on the map).  The drainage pattern of "dry" valleys, streams & rivers & wet valleys is clearly shown by ribbons of flint gravel (orange on the map).  Patches of "Clay with flint" form capping on some high grounds (brown on the map).  The map also shows how the drainage pattern has influenced the distribution of the railway lines and some main roads.
