Welcome to Puttenham Parish Council Web Site

Puttenham lies within the Surrey Hills, 7.5 miles east of Farnham and 5 miles west of Guildford. Nestled below the North Downs, the village is a favourite destination for walkers as it sits upon the Pilgrims Way. A beautiful village within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are excellent road and rail connections to London and the South Coast.

Puttenham Parish is one of the smaller parishes in the Guildford Borough with approximately 600 inhabitants.Within the village is St John the Baptist church, Puttenham Church of England School, the Marwick village hall and two public houses, together with recreational facilities including a childrens play area, football pitch and tennis court.

The village is a mixture of brick, stone, timber and tile-hung buildings in one long village street. It lies on the precise dividing line between the chalk and sandstone terrain.

The church of St John the Baptist is at the eastern end of the village where its C15th tower stands like a gatehouse. The church has medieval origins merged into a 1861 restoration by Woodyear.

Above the village runs the narrow chalk spine of the North Downs between Guildford and Farnham. The Hoggs Back is the well known and trodden route that has carried an important road for centuries. To the south the countryside opens like an endless parkland, bofore reaching The National Trust owned Puttenham Common. This area is crossed by many footpaths, and loved by walkers. Below the common are six stretches of water known as Cut Mill Ponds. The Tarn is the largest and most popular with anglers.
