Early in 2005, a woman phoned "The Ken Bruce Show" on Radio Two to request that some music be played for men working on what she described as "a long building" in the centre of Rampton! Mr. Bruce was duly informed that the building in question was our new village hall rising pheonix-like from the mud and debris... Now, after almost a year of what appeared painfully slow progress, our hall was opened again in November 2005, after the rebuilding of a new front entrance, and improvements to the toilet facilities within. You can see below some pictures taken whilst the old "front" was demolished, new pile supports were driven in, and a new entrance built - and for the sake of nostalgia, a photo of the old hall from the front in the snow of 2003. To Hire the Hall, contact Martin Blunt on 252 214.

The following pictures show groups using the Village Hall, and the ample car park with one of the few remaining Elm Trees in the area (left of picture).
Thanks to all who donated items to the recent (Nov 2007) jumble sale in the hall, and to those who turned up on the day to buy it back! We raised almost £200 for the Hall Improvement Fund. The unsold items weren't wasted either. Any remaining fabrics were donated to the primary school in Cottenham for their 'Bag to School' collection which raises money for the school. Most of the other leftover items were taken to Emmaus in Landbeach to assist in their fundraising. Based on the success of the last two years we plan to repeat this event next year, so please try to save any unwanted items for us if you can. We also held a very successful fundraising quiz night in September (2007). Thank you to all those who attended. A grand total of £130 was raised and a good time was had by all.
Despite this fundraising activity, somewhat less happily we have to report that, mainly due to ever rising electricity costs, we shall have to increase our hiring rates. From 1st January 2008, the village resident hiring rate will increase from £10 to £12 per hour, which we trust still represents good value for money."
