Important Notice

Possible contamination of local drains/water supply

A number of residents appear to have experienced an unusual smell of a sewage/petroleum type mixture in their houses over past several weeks. It appears that a number of dwellings from Church End and the High Street are affected.

Anglian Water have been working during the week (beginning 15 Feb) on the local sump/cesspit adjacent to the Village Hall.

Alex Potter, and Environmental Health Officer at SCDC has commented that the sewage may be contaminated by an "oil" type residue.

SCDC are now investigating and have said "The implications for the potable water supplies, contaminated land and odours etc are not known at present. These will hopefully become clearer as our investigation proceeds."

SCDC have requested that "residents to contact us if they have noticed anything unusual as this may well be helpful in our investigation".

If you are affected, please contact Alex Potter at SCDC on (01954) 713141 or alex.potter@scambs.gov.uk.

Local author, Patrick Lennon, refers to Rampton in his book "The Corn Dolls". Patrick tells the Website:

Rampton seemed a good location for these Corn Dolls scenes because of the comparative isolation, and the way the characters can stand out against the flat landscape. The presence nearby of the old Norman fort also brings in one of the book's themes - a lingering folk memory of the Norman invasion.
As a Cambridge boy at heart, the Fens remain one of my favourite parts of the world. The three books in the trilogy - Corn Dolls, Steel Witches and Cut Out - all have this area as a setting.

'Patrick's latest book, Cut Out, is a controversial thriller set on a Fenland army base and in Afghanistan, and is published in paperback in Jan 2010.' Patrick will be at Heffers Bookshop on 27th January launching his new book "Cut Out".

 Rampton Litter Pickers.

6th September: 18 villagers gathered at 11am to take part in the village clean-up. This follows on from a grant received from Cambridge Foundation organisation that gave us £200 to purchase litter picking equipment. Anyway 20 bags of rubbish was collected from around the village!
