Welcome to Rampton

Rampton Park & Giant's Hill

Rampton Park and Giant's Hill.

You are always welcome to visit and enjoy the walks around the park. There is a signposted walk around the woods which is about a mile and a quarter long - but do take sensible footware, especially when it is wet.

Cambridgeshire Farms have requested that dogs should be kept on a lead, especially when young cattle are in the field.

Please take care to close gates - especially when cattle are in the fields - and take home any litter.

Dog litter bins have been installed at the two main entrances from the main road, so do collect any dog mess and leave it in the bins.

So what's happening at Giant's Hill?

October 2008: Giant's Hill is being given a face lift.   Dead trees are being removed…

the mound has been cleared and the old WW2 gun emplacement is now clearly visible

Work is being undertaken by The BC Group Trust (a charitable organisation). Geoffrey Blackford from BC Trust – who is in charge of the work – told the website that work is temporarily at a halt until a 55' drag line bucket becomes available. The 25' reach JCB that had been used so far is not big enough to complete the job.

However, good news! When the works are completed, the entire moat will be freed of dead trees and cleaned out, the banks will be reinstated and water will again flow around Giant's Hill.

There are many wild animals and birds which have been sighted in the park and the moat around Giant's Hill. These have included Muntjac deer, foxes, rabbits and many species of birds. During the past few years herons, shags, cormorants, kingsfishers, woodpeckers and hawks have been sighted as well as many other varieties. Have you seen the ginger rabbits? Just be quiet and look carefully! They're about again.

During the summer various events are organized in the main fields to which locals and visitors are most welcome.

Events have included archaeological walks, the annual horse show, and the recreation of an ancient village (by Regia Anglorum) - together with simulated battles and skirmishes !
