Welcome to Rampton

Rampton Recreation Ground

Rampton Recreation Ground: often called "the Rec".

Q. Where is it?

A. The "Rec" is towards the end of King Street, on the left hand side, down a lane which runs beside the last of the old council houses.

Q. Can anyone use it?

A Yes - but please note that dogs, cars or horses are NOT allowed onto any part of the recreation ground.

And please try to remember:

To leave vehicles on the road, not in the lane.

To use the rubbish bins that are provided, or take any litter home with you.

Please don't climb over the fence between the recreation ground and the public footpath.

It would be very helpful if people who use the tennis net would, before they leave, remove one of the posts which support the net and take it across the court and place it (and the net) with the other post. This then leaves the court area free for people who want to use the whole court.

Circular from RAMPTON PARISH COUNCIL (November 2007)

Dear Resident,

You have probably recently received an anonymous petition ‘to save our sports field’. Unfortunately, the petition contained a number of inaccuracies that may have given the impression that the recreation ground was being turned into a large wildflower area and the playing area would be lost. This is not the case and we, your Parish Council, wish to make known the facts as follows:
• The wildflower area proposed covers an area of approx 90 x 30 metres along the east side of the recreation ground, and there will remain a grassed area large enough for upto 2 football pitches to be marked out if required.
• Cambridge United Football Club, CUFC, did approach the Council seeking ‘exclusive’ use of the recreation ground for training purposes. CUFC confirmed that this would entail fencing off the training ground for their exclusive use. It would not have been available for the village to use.
The request also breached the terms of the lease agreement for the recreation ground, which belongs to South Cambridgeshire District Council. For these reasons the request was rejected at the 8th October meeting of the Council and this was recorded in the Minutes, which were placed on the noticeboard prior to the circulation of the petition.
• You will also wish to know that the Council is hoping to provide additional activity equipment for older children in the recreation ground and work is under way to secure some funding for this project.

We, as a Council, are very keen to make the recreation ground a place of interest for all residents and to provide activity equipment and facilities, including the grass area for football or other ball games, for the more energetic amongst us.

In addition to the wildflower area we hope to continue the planting of a boundary hedge around the east and south perimeters which would replace the wire fence and reduce maintenance costs in the long term. To do this we desperately need volunteers to help with this work over the coming months and ask you to consider giving up some of your time to help us to make the recreation ground an attractive and interesting place for all residents to enjoy. If you are able to help please complete the tear off slip below and return to the Parish Clerk at 75 King Street, Rampton.
