Wistaston Memorial Hall

If Wistaston Memorial Hall is not in Rope, why should it be mentioned on the Rope Parish web site? The reasons go back to the origins of the Hall which was erected in 1949 as a memorial to the local men killed in the second world war.  Rope was included in an appeal to households to make a contribution to the building costs and helped with numerous fund raising efforts.  One Rope man is included on the memorial plaque in the entrance porch - Sub Lt E Richards, Fleet Air Arm.  It is recorded that at the first AGM, 82 residents of Wistaston and Rope attended, together with 8 persons from outside the area.  Mr H Heaps became Rope Parish Council's first representative on the management committee in 1949 and he later became chairman in 1952. The secretary for the past 7 years is a Rope resident as is the independent examiner of the accounts. It can therefore be seen that the Memorial Hall and Rope are very closely entwined.

Over the years Rope Parish Council has made grants to various projects to improve facilities at the Hall. It does this in the knowledge that a large number of Rope residents benefit as users of the Hall. It is the base for over thirty local organisations and there are very few periods when the Hall is unoccupied. Apart from organisational hire, it is also available for private hire. Hire particulars are available from the Booking Agent, Herbert Locke, Tel 665664.
