SYP@Church
The Southwater Youth Project is involved with both the Southwater churches; Southwater Methodist Church (SCMC) and Holy Innocents, Southwater. Staffed by volunteers from both churches, the following SYP events are open to all! Messy Church: Ever got bored on a Sunday afternoon? Ever wished you could go do messy stuff and not have to worry about the carpet? Come to Southwater Junior School Hall at 4pm on the first Sunday of every month. Each Messy Church session is based around a particular theme. There are always a range of activities from painting to potato printing to mobile making, and biscuit decorating to finger printing. There's always a craft actvity using different materials to create a specific item, and yummy food and drink are always on offer. There is no charge for each event, though donations for materials are always gratefully received!Towards the end of the session we all come together with Rev Kath and Angie (our youthworker), share jokes and show what we've made. We also discuss the theme of each Messy Church session and stand to sing a song with crazy actions. It is a well established and popular event supported by both the local churches. Children of all ages accompanied by an adult are very welcome. Messy Breakfast: Getting up early at the weekend? Not enough stuff to do? Eager for a bacon sandwich? Come down to Messy Breakfast at 9am every third Sunday of the month in Southwater Junior School Hall. At our first session: ".......A small group of children (and their ea rly-rising parents) arrived to a hall full of the smell of bacon sandwiches and lots of activities and things to do. After a mini-wake-up session, we were given the chance to work on our own, in a group or sit and ask tricky questions about God with the volunteers whilst enjoying breakfast (ketchup optional!)...." Proving popular though still in it's infancy, Messy Breakfast is the baby brother of Messy Church. All are welcome. Church Youth Groups: Sunday nights, FUSION youth fellowship 6pm - 7.30pm for 11-14 year olds; 7.30pm - 9.00pm for 14+ year olds. Angie and her team of Christian volunteers take the boredom and worry of school out of Sunday nights.
