THIRLMERE WEEKEND
23-Nov-2005

The people who live in the Thirlmere area and around Keswick thoroughly enjoyed the Concert given by the Keswick Amateur Operatic Society last Saturday evening in St. Herbert?s Hall, in aid of their hall funds. The entertainers mingled with the audience during the lovely supper provided by the people of Thirlmere.

On Sunday afternoon the Hall was open at Thirlmere where people gathered once again. They were joined by the local N.P. Warden who brought a model and quiz as part of it, which appealed to everyone, a bird box was the prize won later by James Chaplin -Brice. The newly formed Young Farmers Group had interesting information, also the Environment Officer and a local Policeman. The W.I. at Thirlmere is 50 years old next year and they set out a wonderful exhibit for people to see. There was a bring and buy stall, raffle and tea with home made scones and biscuits.

A very big thank you to everyone who made the weekend so happy and successful, and supported launching the Hall project so raising £500.

In future years it will be necessary for all halls to have a disabled loo and suitable access, so this weekend of fund raising launched the project to provide these in this hall together with some other improvement. People so enjoy using the hall in this beautiful area.

We also had a list for people to add their name to should they be interested in visiting the Straining Well at Thirlmere or the new United Utilities Processing Plant at Bridge End, the Parish Council are going to arrange these visits next year so if you missed adding your name to the list please let a member of the P.C. know.
