The Historic Cheshire Churches Preservation Trust is dependent on voluntary donations for a large part of its income. The main annual fundraising event is the Ride & Stride Day which is a national event and always held on the second Saturday in September when groups of people or individuals from churches all over the county ride, walk or run around as many churches in their area as they choose.

They obtain sponsorship for their efforts and half of what they raise goes to the church of their choice whilst the Trust gets the benefit of the other half. In 2007, the gross proceeds from all the County Trusts across the UK were more than £1.5m. Cheshire collected over £20,000, which was 50% up on 2006. Four churches (All Saints, Daresbury; St Thomas, Stockton Heath; St Mary & St Luke, Bowdon and St Mary, Nether Alderley) grossed over £1,000 each. Also of note was Revd Mark Greenstreet from St Mary, Halton who raised over £750 attempting to visit every church in the Diocese on his motor bike!

Congratulations to all who took part - if you have not participated in the past please do so this year, and those who have please ensure you do so again!

NB. In 2008 participants can now set up their own sponsorship web pages via Just Giving (see link). Not only is this a fun way to post photos and collect proceeds, it also has the benefit that sponsors can donate in advance of the event and Just Giving do all the administration - including any Gift Aid! This is a bonus for all involved in local organisation and collecting the sponsorship monies thereafter!
