All Things Bright and Beautiful
And Now St. Mary's is Too! The re-painting of St Mary’s was completed on Saturday 13th September and I am sure everyone would like to thank those involved in making this enormous task such a success. What a difference a bit of tender, loving care can make in a building! What many people don’t realise (I certainly didn’t before being on the PCC and involved in the discussions about this issue) is that many steps had to be taken in order to ensure this painting could take place at all - it’s certainly been a regular feature of our PCC meetings for the last 18 months, or even more! Before any improvements can be made, the church needs special permission from the diocese—so there is much paperwork to be done in the application. Advice needed to be sought from architects, quotes from potential contractors—and numerous discussions about colour took place. All the work obviously needs to be in keeping with the historic nature of the building so just nipping down to B&Q for a tin of paint is out of the question. And then there were also the volunteers who helped to clear the church— and then put it back together again after the decorating. All this has taken much patience, hard work and good humour, especially on the part of our church wardens—so MANY THANKS to them, to everyone else involved and well done!
