St. Luke's Church
"Unless the Lord builds the house its builders labour in vain" Ps.127:1 St.Luke's started life as a part of St.Mary's outreach to Willaston by holding their local meetings in the Park Road scout hut. In time a small number of people believed it right to create a special building for worship of God. The decision was far reaching as it was constructed as a multi purpose building primarily as a place of worship but very much aimed to serve and reach the people of Willaston in a variety of ways. Consecrated as a church in October 1965 we have just celebrated our 40th Anniversary. In recent times with increased mobility people come from all over the parish perhaps attracted by the smaller sized congregation, the very personal nature of ministry we can offer in the smaller church and the earlier time of our service. It is still seen today as a community church with joint appeal to local organisations. Within the last few years the church has been refurbished throughout. The old pews and hard wooden chairs have been replaced with new comfortable seating. The linoleum covered floor has been carpeted. Heating and lighting has been upgraded. A modern kitchen has been installed and latterly a new toilet has been fitted which is suitable for all. Every improvement has been made with full consideration for the needs of the less abled. All this work has been paid for by our members, by personal gifts and from proceeds raised at our Annual Coffee Evenings and Christmas Fayres. The facilities are so improved that they have become increasingly popular with groups wishing to hire both for church purposes and a variety of associations with diverse interests. For your information details are available. It is our hope and prayer however, that people from these groups will extend their visits to include our Sunday services. We meet for worship every Sunday at 9.00 a.m. (except on the fifth Sunday when we meet together with St.Mary's at 10.40 a.m.). Full details of the varied parish programme can be found on the page entitled 'Sundays at our churches' on this website. A Praise & Play group for pre-school children meets in the church every fortnight starting at 10.00 a.m. during school term time. "Our church provides opportunities for the worship and praise of God and the educating and forming of its people for a life of caring for others in response to that grace"
