New Projects

In our continuing aim to serve God in this parish & community we plan to repair and redecorate the interior of your church.

Recent major projects

Our 1st project was to fully refurbish our daughter church of St.Luke‛s. This was completed and paid for by personal donation from church members and users. Project 2 was much larger with St.Mary‛s church hall refurbishment being completed in 2004 at a cost of £60,000 by a combination of personal giving, contributions from users and significant external grants. Project 3 was the old vestry at St.Mary‛s church. Here we have created a whole new concept with new kitchen and toilet facilities. The welcoming area for displays, books and publicity materials is almost complete. The £22,500 cost was met from gifts from friends of St.Mary‛s and church members. All three projects are suitable for use by people with disabilities.

It is now time to concentrate on the church building itself.

Project 4 Outlined

It is now more than 20 years since the church was decorated. Superficially it may look acceptable but on closer inspection there are numerous places where the wall and ceiling plaster is cracking and in others, where it is falling off. Hairline cracks are common. There is significant need for repairs before painting. As far as we can detect there is no sign of damp.

At the September 2006 meeting of the Church Council, members approved a plan to:- 1. Make good and repair the existing internal wall and ceiling damage. 2. Repaint all ceilings and walls throughout the church. We propose to maintain the existing colour scheme in order that two coats of paint will be adequate. Any significant variation would require extra paint and associated cost.

This work is less extensive than projects 2 & 3 but due to the height and the need for scaffolding, is likely to cost around £10,000. We believe you will all wish to support your Church Council‛s decision that this work needs to be done.

We are therefore launching an immediate appeal to you for this amount. Cheques should be made payable to St.Mary‛s, Wistaston PCC - ‘Church painting‛ . If you are a tax payer may we ask that you use one of the special Gift Aid envelopes enabling us to claim a further 28p for every £1 given.

We trust that with your support now you will make it possible for us to place this work in hand for the Spring of 2007.

Our thanks to you all in faith.

29th April 2007 - Current total: £5,703.88. Thank you to everyone who has donated.
