Trowbridge is a 'wool town', once famous for its high quality woollen cloth. At one time it was the most important wool town in the South West, with an industrial history stretching back to the fourteenth century. The last mills closed in the 1980's. You can explore some of Trowbridge's history by following the Industrial Trail around the town. Trowbridge is the county town, providing the administrative, commercial and administrative centre for Wiltshire. There's a popular modern shopping centre with many of the national chain stores as well as the county museum and Bliss Meadows Country Park.
