Welcome to Warkworth

District/County Councillor Notes Oct 05

 SALE OF ALCOHOL

I am pleased to report that the Liquor Licence variations requested by The Mason's Arms and The Hermitage Inn, Warkworth have been dealt with by the Licensing Committee of Alnwick District Council.  The Committee decided to grant both establishments the right to sell liquor until 12 midnight Monday to Saturday and 11 pm on a Sunday.  In addition The Hermitage was granted some public entertainment rights which were, live and recorded music 9 - 11 pm on a Friday, indoor sporting events such and dominos and darts 6 - 12 pm Monday to Saturday and Films (race nights) 7 - 11 pm Monday to Saturday.

As you may be aware the new Government legislation is a mixture of de-regulation and increased regulation and in certain situations allows the sale of alcohol for 24 hours.  Under the circumstances I believe that the decision reached by the Licensing Committee to be a fair one.  I hope you do too.

GUILDEN'S PLAY PARK

I have decided to fund the new sea-saw in the Guilden's Play Park from my County Council members small scheme fund and have set the wheels in motion for this to happen.

SURGERIES

Councillor Sue Champion and I have decided not to hold any further surgeries for the time being in Warkworth or Acklington as, judging from attendances, there does not seem to be a need.

DROPPED KERB

A request for a dropped kerb at the Church in Acklington is something I have in hand and I hope I can report good news on that request in the next Pelican.

ROTARY WAY

I am working with Councillor Arkless of Amble on a possible joint scheme to improve the lay-bys on Rotary Way between Warkworth and Amble but I suspect we might not see any major improvement until next year, I will keep you informed.
